The Tompkins County Climate Protection Initiative (TCCPI) seeks to establish and mobilize a coalition of local community leaders who are committed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and greater energy efficiency.
The coalition's primary focus is on undertaking major energy efficiency projects that will significantly decrease electricity consumption, producing critical economic and environmental benefits associated with the climate protection effort.
TCCPI has four major goals:
1. Facilitate implementation of a common strategy, target, and timetable for achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Creation of a peer-to-peer mentoring network that will provide mutual support among the participants in addressing the problems and challenges involved in meeting the county's target of 80% reductions in GHG emissions and timetable of 2% per year.
3. Establishment of a consortium that will allow members to explore potential financing mechanisms and purchase the necessary goods and services to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets at a significant discount.
4. Facilitate development of a process and tools that will allow us to monitor our progress through effective data collection and analysis, promoting transparency, and accountability.
By pursuing these goals, we hope to create a replicable model for energy efficiency and climate protection for communities throughout the nation.
